I love Stephen King's writing style and have read a great number of his books. I rarely feel anything but an eye roll at what are supposed to be the scary parts of the story, I think primarily because as an atheist I have zero belief in, or fear of, the "supernatural".But this book wasn't one of those. This was full of psychological terror. What woman hasn't feared being held captive in one of myriad ways? It was easy to imagine myself as Jessie. I was also satisfied with the conclusion, which I rarely am with most fiction.

So many stories within the actual story here. Jessie agrees to let her husband handcuff her for his pleasure, if you're thinking "Fifty Shades" think again this is Stephen King and that takes things to a whole different dimension. What follows is 28 hours of insanity as only Stepen King can conjure. The ending was the only thing that was weak in my opinion.
If you are looking for a light happy read then don't read this. It is great writing but not a happy moment in the whole book. Will make you think of things you might not want to. I could not put it down. This could only come from the mind of Stephen King )
Once again I read this when I was Much younger & reading it again from a different mind set was Amazing!!! Even better than I remembered!!! I Love My S.K.!!! Pure Genius.
*The Avid Reader
Second time I've read it and I find my thoughts haven't changed. Some really good writing here but I think this book could have been shorter. Seemed to drag in places. But hey, any King novel is worth the price of admission.
I can't believe I've let this Stephen King novel pass me by all these years. There's a certain gothic sensibility to "Gerald's Game" and some of King's best, most beautifully descriptive and heart-wrenching writing. I'm really impressed with it. I think it's going to rank as one of my favorites of his-- and I'm a die-hard fan. PIck this up, you won't be disappointed.
I confess that I'm not a big King fan. I liked this one, but for me it wasn't exactly a page turner. Extra points for a bizarre plot. The earlier chapters which essentially reviewed her earlier life and especially the molestation by her father were uninteresting. Attempts to get free were also not suspenseful because you knew she wasn't going to get free so early in the book. The dog? Well, why not. The later chapters where she wrestles with whether there actually was an intruder were more interesting. Not sorry I read it -- mildly entertaining -- but hard to recommend. King fans might like ti more.
Okay I love Stephen King and I simply love Gerald's Game! I read this book for the first time when I was in my early 20's, again when I was in my early 30's and I am reading it for the third time in my early 40's! I have gotten a different perspective with each read but the one thing that has remained consistent is how much I love Stephen King! He has a talent for building up the most gruesome and horrifying words that you can practically place yourself as the victim in his novels! If you enjoyed Dolores Claiborne (DC), which I did, you will appreciate Gerald's Game (the eclipse portion in this book reads very similar to the eclipse in DC). But other than that the entire premise is completely different, very graphic, and gruesomely descriptive. You can not help but feel for the woman in this book! Feel, and HOPE you are never in a similar situation! Poor thing!
